About Us
Hi! My name is Emily Madhoo, founder of Silk + Noir.
I didnât start this brand because I wanted to sell bodycare. I started it because I had a divine moment of clarityâinspired by God, Jesus Christ, who guides my steps Â
While working as a Respiratory Therapist during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was incessantly nudged with the thought to start a business. Growing up, entrepreneurship was one of those things on my no list. So I kept ignoring this thought because it was never a desire of mine. And then it finally dawned on me that God was calling me to entrepreneurship, so I prayed. I asked for guidance. I wanted clarity on the kind of business I was meant to build, not just one that made money, but one that made meaning. The answer came clearly:Â body care.
After using a handmade bar of soap for the first time, I felt something shift. It awakened a desire in me to create something that honored the body, not just in sickness, but in beauty. Not just from the inside, but from the outside too. I saw firsthand how vital our organs are to quality of life. That work gave me a profound respect for the human body. Thatâs when Silk + Noir was birthed.
At the time, I had no experience formulating. But what I did have was a deep awareness of the human body. Iâve spent years working in hospitals, helping people breathe, caring for one of the bodyâs most vital organs: the lungs. And hereâs the thing, the skin is an organ, too. The largest one. It protects, absorbs, responds, and reflects what weâre going through. It tells a story and it deserves care thatâs as intentional as anything Iâd trust near the lungs. Both protect you. Both reflect your health. And both respond to care. Â
In my work, Iâve seen how breath sustains life. But I also know that what touches your skin matters just as much. Your skin isnât just to be seen, but to be deeply cared for. I wanted people to experience care that went deeper. Products that work. Textures that feel like luxury. Scents that shift your mood. And ingredients that are intentional.
Thatâs why I created Silk + Noir: to care for the bodyâs outermost layer with the same intention we give to our inner health. In hospitals, I support the lungs, an organ you canât live without. In my studio, I craft skincare for the skin, an organ that helps you feel alive.
Silk + Noir is a brand built on appreciation + respect for this vital organ. I cared for one vital organ. Now I get to care for another. Every formula is made with ingredients that nourish deeply, scents that transport, and textures that feel like self-respect.
As a Respiratory Therapist for over 10 years, Iâve spent years helping people breathe, treating the lungs with care and esteem. That same level of intention now guides every product I create for the skin. I believe in giving the body what it truly needs, formulas that bring life to the surface. The body speaks. Iâve always listened.
Say hello to your skinâs new love languageâ˘.
